To plan detailed cellular structures of mobile radio networks high-resolution three-dimensional propagation models are used.

The acquisition of the required 3-D city models is based on aerial photos taken on recent flights over big cities and special areas of interest.

The 3-D data model distinguishes different types of buildings, primarily by their roof shapes. Further characteristic features that might exert an influence on the attenuation and reflection of radio waves can be integrated into the 3-D city model.

These are, among others, areas of vegetation and walls. For the regions to be evaluated a terrain model with a 5m x 5m resolution and digital ortho images are available additionally.
